Born from a school days friendship, Hail to the Eskimo now comprises Sally Leigh, (Vocals, keyboard), Phil Johnson (Guitar), Matt Wilkinson (Guitar), Rob Bishop (Bass, backing vocals) and Dave Crozier (Drums). They are from Doncaster and formed in March 2008. The band's intention is to create music that fits into the alternative genre yet still appeals to a wide ranging audience. Their songs are catchy and upbeat and they reflect the stranger parts of life and love with a witty commentary on the mundane. The Eskimos have played venues up and down the UK including The Kasbah in Coventry, The Green Room in Welwyn Garden City, The Speakeasy in York, The Boardwalk in Sheffield, Vintage Rockbar in Doncaster and The Ringside in Hull. Recognition for the band has come in the form of their song, 'Queen of the Disco', being played on numerous local radio stations.

Hail to the Eskimo have appeared on a live session for BBC Raw Talent Introducing, on BBC Radio Sheffield and were also asked to record their song ‘How Lovely You Are’ for local label Circuit Records, as part of a compilation album showcasing the best local bands in South Yorkshire. They have received positive reviews in a variety of publications, the most recent being the September 2009 issue of Playmusic Pickup magazine featured them as ‘Kerchoonz Band of the Month’, where they were described as creating a liquid sound and readers told ‘they'll show you a good time’. With an age range in the band of 22 to 38, genre influences are varied, including New Wave, Indie, Alternative, Pop, Rock, Funk, Disco, Grunge and even Metal and Classical. Band influences range from Blondie through XTC and My Bloody Valentine to Airborne Toxic Event, Plup and Placebo.

Phil has played in many bands including the Neon Plastix, where he was involved in two single releases, a song that was featured on the video game Need For Speed: Pro Street, and an album release. He has played at venues all over the country supporting bands such as The Kooks, Robots in Disguise and Klaxons. Matt and Dave are both classically trained musicians, undertaking and successfully completing exam grades. Both have plenty of gigging experience playing with bands in and around Doncaster. Dave also plays the trumpet and has played both drums and trumpet as a member of the Armthorpe Colliery Brass Band! Rob is an experienced bassist that has played in numerous bands based in Lincoln, Leeds and Barnsley. Finally, the newest addition, Sally completes the line-up with her exciting vocal talents. She has always been involved with music and singing from being very young. She has completed grades in Piano and in singing.

These five individuals combine their varied talents and produce the sound that is… Hail to the Eskimo.
