Born from a school days friendship, Hail to the Eskimo are a band who are bringing the Arctic disco to a dance floor near you. Their songs are upbeat bundles of sonic energy reflecting the stranger parts of life and love with a witty commentary on the mundane. With their high octane catchy melodies, the band have danced their way through venues up and down the UK including The Kasbah in Coventry, The O2 Academy in Sheffield, The Green Room in Welwyn Garden City and Club 85 in Hertfordshire. They have supported bands such as Pineapple Dance Studio's Starman and Chris Helme of the The Yards and Seahorses.
Wide ranging recognition for the band includes the song 'Queen of the Disco' being played on numerous radio stations nationwide, culminating in a live session for BBC Raw Talent Introducing on BBC Radio Sheffield. Hail to the Eskimo have also recorded a song for Circuit Records as part of a compilation album showcasing the best local bands in South Yorkshire. Glowing press reviews followed in a variety of publications such as the September 2009 issue of Playmusic Pickup magazine. The magazine featured them as 'Kerchoonz Band of the Month', where they were described as creating a "liquid sound that will show you a good time". In the summer of 2010 the band released the single 'Anything Can Happen' on independent label, Tighter Records.
Listing a vast number of bands as influences, from Blondie through XTC and My Bloody Valentine to The Smiths, Pulp and Placebo, Hail to the Eskimo dip their feet into many genres including New Wave, Indie, Alternative, Pop, Rock, Funk, Disco, Grunge and even Metal. They are a wall of delay drenched guitars set against pounding dance beats that rumble beneath shimmering heartfelt vocals. Each member contributes a unique and distinct element yet combine to create a sound that is melodic, driving and ultimately danceable.
